I think Rachel and Violet have the special kind of mother/ daughter bond that everyone dreams of or hopes to have. The kind "they" make movies and shows about. For anyone that knows the two of them, you know they are BIG and LOUD and BRIGHT, the kind of people that somehow steal the show without you ever quite noticing they stole it.

From initially being my neighbors, to growing into my friends, I have gotten the pleasure of befriending both Rachel and Violet. And basically getting to participate in their beautiful and weird world with them. ;) So naturally, taking their family photos I knew it would be crazy, funny, and gorgeous. I wish I had taken a notebook with me for the shoot so I could share some very Violet quotes, because there were many.

These too braved the super cold temperatures, forged through a very thorny field (where Violet taught us some yoga to calm), and made the absolute best of makeshift outfit changes right up until there was no more golden light to gather.

I think I will say this every time I share a set of photos, but it was an absolute joy. Sessions and experiences like these are the times that make me so very appreciative of art, and the opportunity to capture it.

Rachel, I hope these portraits will be something you can cherish for years and years to come. Love you.
